LUMBERTON — A bill that would give the Lumbees federal recognition has been voted out of committee and now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
The Senate Indian Affairs Committee agreed by voice vote Thursday to send the bill to the Senate.
If the bill passes the Senate, the tribe would be eligible for millions of dollars in federal aid for education, health, economic development and housing. Federal officials estimate the tribe could receive $400 million over five years.
Oh how wonderful. This will most surely pass the Senate and now the lazy Lumbees can leach off of even more of our money. Apparently, it’s just too much to ask of them to get a job and provide for themselves like the rest of us.
Watching this video made by blood boil. This is absolutely disgusting. We saw the conditions our wounded soldiers and veterans were having to put up with at Walter Reed, now we see even worse living quarters at a U.S. Army Base? I am sick and tired of our government treating our military like absolute shit. They are under paid. They have been subjected to harsh conditions and have forcefully had their terms extended for this war in Iraq. Many of these soldiers families barely skim by when they are deployed. Many of them are returning home and suffering psychological problems that we just recently found out the Feds have been lying about. Now we see how they are forced to live in bases within our own borders soiled with filth? If this were a prison housing criminals do you think it would ever be allowed to reach even half of the dilapidated state you just saw in that video?
The army has had to lower their standards of who they’ll take because of the drop in recruiting stats. Well, is it any wonder why? Who the hell wants to live like this and get paid peanuts for it?
RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina branch of the NAACP said Friday a Republican advertisement that includes a clip of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s former pastor is racially divisive.
NAACP leaders blasted the North Carolina GOP for producing an ad that shows footage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s fiery comments about the U.S. The group said the ad takes Wright’s words out of context in an effort to smear the black community and “prophetic ministers.”
“It’s a fundamentally race-baiting ad,” said Rev. William Barber, state NAACP President. “And it inserts racist sentiments
The Reverend Barber is right about there being racism in the ad, but it’s coming from the radical Reverend Wright. The NAACP is one of the least credible organizations out there when it comes to dealing with issue of race. They constantly cry wolf on the subject and I think most people today just roll their eyes when they hear the NAACP whining about something.
Regarding the ad, the Democrats continue to make these accusations of racism in the ad, but I haven’t heard a single one be able to explain why it’s racist.
RALEIGH — The racial rhetoric of the race for the Democratic nomination for governor ratcheted up another notch Friday afternoon as State Treasurer Richard Moore’s campaign displayed Confederate flag-emblazoned goods they purchased at Georgia convenience stores owned by Beverly Perdue’s family.
“Is this a hat that Bev Perdue would let her campaign staff wear?” said Jay Reiff, Moore’s campaign manager, pointing to a row of three baseball caps with different “Stars and Bars” variations: one with flames, one with a reflective logo and one with camouflage.
Perdue’s husband, Bob Eaves, owns a chain of “The Right Stuff Food Stores” in Georgia. Until last year, Perdue was an officer in the company.
What a pathetically cheap shot. So what if Bev Perdue’s husband sells confederate items at his stores. This is the south! Is Moore suggesting that the people he wishes to represent as governor should be ashamed of their heritage? Is this really the message he wants to send to the voters a week before the primary election? I don’t think he thought this through very well.
ASHEVILLE – Sen. Hillary Clinton told a raucous and inspired Asheville crowd Thursday that as commander in chief she would end the war in Iraq while enacting universal health care and reviving a faltering economy.
Flanked by retired generals and with a backdrop reading “Solutions for a Strong Military,” the former first lady was repeatedly interrupted by standing ovations with thunderous applause inside the Asheville Civic Center’s Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.
One such outburst came with her pledge to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq within 60 days of becoming president.
“We must restore our moral authority around the world. That begins by ending the war in Iraq,” she said. “I will begin withdrawing our troops, and I will tell the Iraqis they must step up.”
I don’t believe Hillary or Obama when they say they are going to start withdrawing from Iraq. I definitely don’t believe Hillary will do it and Obama has already said that he will keep residual forces there for stability. One of this top advisers said that entails a force of 60,000 to 80,000. Well, that’s half of what’s there now.
Rep. Blue has time to step out in front of the legislative building and proclaim his endorsement of Obama. But he does not have time to step out into the community he represents to see what our concerns and problems are. At least Rodger Koopman had the concern of the Mini City community when he attended and spoke at the Green Road Community Center recently.
There have been other events in the community to include a candidates day at Mt Peace Baptist Church, and the upcoming event at NCSU sponsored by the Center of Electoral Empowerment that he will fail to attend.
Dan Blue has made it all to clear that he wasn’t sure that he wanted to file and has shown no interest in his district. He is simply another arrogant politician that thinks that we just cling to our guns and religion.
