LUMBERTON — A bill that would give the Lumbees federal recognition has been voted out of committee and now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee agreed by voice vote Thursday to send the bill to the Senate.

If the bill passes the Senate, the tribe would be eligible for millions of dollars in federal aid for education, health, economic development and housing. Federal officials estimate the tribe could receive $400 million over five years.

Oh how wonderful. This will most surely pass the Senate and now the lazy Lumbees can leach off of even more of our money. Apparently, it’s just too much to ask of them to get a job and provide for themselves like the rest of us.
