Sometimes I Rethink my Opposition to the Death Penalty…
MACCLESFIELD – A Macclesfield couple has been charged with murder after their 13-year-old son died while tied to a tree for two nights.Brice Brian McMillan, 41, told deputies that the child was being disobedient and was punished by sleeping tied to a tree outside of the family’s home at 1110 Felton Farm Road on Tuesday night, Edgecombe County Sheriff James L. Knight said in a statement. The teenager was released Wednesday morning and tied to the tree again that night for bad behavior.
Temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday reached more than 90 degrees and dipped into the 70s at night.
Macclesfield sits northwest of the wildfires blazing in Hyde County. The thick smoke from the fire lingered in the area and around the home on Felton Farm Road on Friday.
Sometimes I wish we didn’t have the 8th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Then we could do the exact same thing to these gargoyles who dared call themselves “parents”. We can wait until it gets to be 100 degrees, and we can light a bonfire nearby to simulate the smoky air. I don’t think that’s cruel or unusual at all. It seems awfully appropriate, actually.
