On a more serious note, I'm currently reading "The Paradox of Tar Heal Politics" by Rob Christensen. Good read so far.

On your point, during the late 1800's/early 1900's, you would be shocked at the level of hatred and vitriol the state Democrats had for black citizens. Their complete dominance of the state began after a truly disgusting race-baiting strategy that bordered on domestic terrorism during the 1898 election. The incumbent Republican governor was nearly lynched, black politicians were driven from their homes, and Democrat "Red Shirts" paraded an early version of the Gatling Gun around Wilmington to scare away black voters.

Now this isn't to say that today's Democrats are the same, because certainly they aren't. It is an interesting historical tidbit, however, that after 1898 Republicans were in the constant minority, and in many ways still are.

the Sleazely's are trying to get every taxpayer $ they can confiscate before they fizzle...we had hoped they would get the hell OUT of Rawleigh in January, but now it looks like they will still be around with her new big job. These people are corrupt trash.
