Etheridge is no expert on the energy crisis

Under the Dome

He talked about his bill to boost the number of federal investigators of excessive oil speculation, saying, “Right now, we need more cops on the beat,” according to his prepared remarks, Barb Barrett reports

Why isn’t Etheridge, Price, and Miller back in Washington getting us some relief on gas prices and gas taxes?

Since Etheridge does not understand the concept of not drilling where there is no oil I will explain. Sir, you cannot get oil where there is none. I hope that was easy to understand.

How about cutting a lot of the excise taxes involving gas, diesel, propane and other forms of energy? That would put more money into our pockets and enable the workers and retirees of our great nation the ability to survive without sacrificing food or medicine that we need. But I do not see Democrats like the three above to do becuase it is too easy and takes away from the power of of the federal purse strings.

Democrats, like Reps. Etheridge, Price, Miller and myself, understand that more domestic drilling is far from a long-term solution to our energy problems. While drilling might trim a few cents per gallon off the price of gas at the pump several years from now, it is only a drop in the bucket. Continued reliance on foreign, nonrenewable fossil fuels will only make matters worse and will leave our children and grandchildren to pay the price for our wasteful habits. If I’m elected to serve the people of the 6th District, I will work for an energy plan that moves America forward by aggressively investing in clean, renewable energy, including the cheapest and most abundant fuel source there is: conservation.

If President Clinton had no vetoed the energy plan proposed in 1995 we will have been getting domestic oil and natural gas for the last three years. The continuation of sticking my head in the sand will not work.
Every single instance of alternative energy is not widespread or technologically efficient enough to replace even a portion of oil used. The same argument you state against drilling applies to every issue you propose.
The best answer is use everything. Start drilling for oil, use LED lights since they are safer and efficient than fluroescent, and expand solar and wind power. To say what you say is disengenous at best. President Bush removed the Presidential ban on offshore drilling and oil FUTURES went down $12 a barrel in two days.
