Graduation Arrest Charges Dropped
Remember back in June how the senseless retards at the Rock Hill Police Department arrested eight people at Winthrop University for cheering at graduation ceremonies? The Herald is reporting today that the charges have finally been dropped, although I’m still not particularly enamored with the outcome.
Disorderly conduct charges against at least seven of the eight people arrested in June for cheering at area high school graduations at the Winthrop Coliseum have been dismissed after the people wrote apologies for behavior at the ceremonies, according to court testimony this afternoon.
They had to write apologies for cheering at a graduation ceremonies? What the hell? Is the Rock Hill PD and Judge Jane Modla so petty and juvenile that they can’t just admit the police were wrong and made complete bungling jackasses of themselves over this? It’s the mental midgets in the police department who made the arrests who need to be writing the apologies. All they had to do was ask them to leave the auditorium if they felt their gestures of celebration were distracting. The eight arrested ought to file a joint lawsuit against the police department for violating their civil rights.
The solution is a good compromise. There were jackasses there - and they are the ones writing apologies. When you explain what your are going to do at least three times before the ceremony, and then you do it - those acting up should either pay the fine for their actions or turn in their citizen cards - they belong in the Darwin Awards.
Admittedly Jim, I wasn’t there so I can’t claim to have witnessed how obnoxious they may or may not have been, but again, remove them from the auditorium and let them be on their way. To place someone under arrest for something this trivial and tie up our already cluttered legal system and waste taxpayer dollars on someone doing a “Whoop! Whoop!” is over zealous. This story got national attention and it made our city look foolish.
