Perdue Takes Credit for Poor Health Care Record

Charlotte, N.C. – During Tuesday’s WTVD gubernatorial debate, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue declared that she was “the health care leader in North Carolina” and cited her leadership on the Health and Wellness Trust Fund.

Now for a look at her record as “the leader” over the past eight years:

In 2001, when Perdue came to power:
Percentage of North Carolinians uninsured – 14.4%*
Percentage of North Carolina children uninsured – 11.2%

After eight years of Perdue leadership:
Percentage of North Carolinians uninsured – 17.9%
Percentage of North Carolina children uninsured – 13.2%

“Apparently, the lieutenant governor’s definition of health care leadership means having more North Carolinians go without health insurance,” said Amy Auth, communications director for the McCrory campaign.  “We cannot afford another eight years of this type of leadership.”
