Frye Gets Probation for DWI

SPRUCE PINE, N.C. — North Carolina state Rep. Phillip Frye was sentenced to probation, eight months after his drunken driving arrest.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Saturday that the Mitchell County Republican pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, just as he had pledged to do shortly after hitting a parked car near his Spruce Pine home on Christmas Eve.
Sounds to me like Frye pretty much got off scott free. He escapes any kind of meaningful punishment despite the fact he could have easily killed somebody and since he has no opposition in the general election he will continue on as a representative for the people of the 84th District. This would be a good opportunity for an independent write-in campaign. Voters don’t like drunk drivers speaking for them. A well organized write-in candidate could be successful at ousting Frye in November. Any takers?
