Five Things You May Not Know About Gov. Sarah Palin
1. Her nickname is “Sarah Barracuda”. She got it from her aggressive style of play while she was a captain and point guard for her high school basketball team. She isn’t too friendly to corrupt Alaskan politicos either. As an aside, Barracuda should be the theme song every time she gives a speech!
2. Her youngest son, Trig, was born in April. Palin knew there was a very good chance that he would have Down Syndrome, but would never even consider aborting him. He was there when McCain introduced her as his running mate.
3. She took on the corrupt mayor of her hometown of Wasilla, AK and beat him. She fired his corrupt staff and the police chief. She lowered taxes 60%. The old mayor sought a rematch two years later and she kicked his ass. Then she did the same thing to state government. Meanwhile, Barack Obama was buying a house with help from his pal Rezko.
4. Her husband Todd is a world champion snowmobiler. He was the 4-time defending champion of the 2,000 mile-long Iron Dog snowmobile race.
5. She hunts moose. Seriously. I’m a vegetarian and even I think that’s freakin’ awesome! It’s said that she even makes a mean moose soup. Her parents were unaware of her selection as VP until early this morning, when she called them and told them to get to a TV or radio. When they received the call, they were hunting caribou. Freakin’ caribou!

I have a question for you and I wrote an editorial about this on my blog. Do you think McCain only picked Palin simply because she’s a woman?
I think so, and while she does have some very impressive experience as I wrote about, it is still limited when it comes to the bigger pond of Washington.
It’s going to be interesting now that she’s in the race.
Also, I have to agree: It’s pretty damn cool that she hunts moose. No wonder why the NRA is happy with her. I think it colorfully shows just how tough Palin really is.

The honest answer is… I don’t know. Did Obama’s snubbing of Hillary make Palin a wiser pick? Yes. Might McCain have picked her anyways? Possibly. Don’t forget that McCain has a 25 year history of stuff like this. He likes iconoclasts, he likes mavericks, and he likes outside-the-box reformers. Palin is right up his alley.
As for the experience factor- I want everyone who wants McCain-Palin to be elected to harken onto my words and commit them to memory: Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama. Sarah Palin has more accomplishments in 2 years as governor of Alaska than Barack Obama has in four years as a do-nothing absentee senator. Name one -ONE- significant legislative accomlishment that Barack Obama can claim. Name ONE significant bill that passed because of his efforts. Name ONE significant committee or sub-committee he has chaired in the last four years.
Are you concerned that Sarah Palin may be just one heart-beat away from the Oval Office? Be more concerned that Barack Obama actually wants to BE that heartbeat, and that by any reasonable standard he is dreadfully unprepared to be president.
Oh, I certainly agree with you about Palin’s accomplishments as governor. In fact, I wrote just that in my editorial. And that really says something about her. Let’s face it, people elected her to be a leader, while people only elected Obama to represent them. Two very different things.
I do think that because Palin will be in the VP position, she will easily adapt to Washington politics and will blow away Republicans and Democrats. We need someone like Palin in Washington.
But to answer your question, I don’t have a problem with Palin as president if something were to happen to McCain. As I said, she has more leadership experience than Obama and that should sit well with any thinking, rational person. Sadly, people like that are hard to come by.
