We Need More Recorded Votes
Not that long ago State Representative Nikki Haley (R-Lexington) introduced a bill to require more recorded votes in the General Assembly. Her agenda failed, but Senate Majority Leader Harvey Peeler (R-Gaffney) has renewed the call. I fully support this effort. How can the public hold their representatives accountable if we don’t know what they are or are not voting for? Obviously, not every single vote needs to be roll called. A vote taken to name a bridge is not vital to the state’s longevity, but most votes effecting spending and state operations should be recorded.
Transparency in Columbia needs increased and this is a great move to kick it off.
