Interview with Dallas Woodhouse of N.C. American’s for Prosperity
Dallas Woodhouse was nice enough to take time out of his schedule to answer a few questions for us here at the Defending the American Dream Summit in D.C.
What has AFP been doing in N.C?
We’ve been growing a large grassroots network of conservatives and libertarians to advocate freedom for all, stand up to big government, and fight for low taxes. We’re also working for offshore drilling, fighting the land transfer tax, and fighting forced annexation.
On forced annexaion, Mayor Pat McCrory has relied a lot on annexation as mayor of Charlotte. What do you think about that?Â
“We’ve got some work to do on Pat when it comes to forced annexation. The situation in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County is a bit different than in some other parts of the state, but we’ve got work to do on him. But Beverly Perdue has never done anything to stop forced annexation either.”
NC has the highest business taxes in the Southeast. What can we do to fix that?
We can cut it in half by getting rid of targeted incentives. We already have taxes that are driving away businesses, so what’s our solutions? We bribe some businesses to come here and set up shop by taxing the others. We need to cut the corporate tax rate for everyone and stop giving away favors.
What sort of tax reforms to do support?
Tax reforms won’t matter if we don’t have spending limits. That’s what we need to focus on for now.
Mr. Woodhouse had to get to a seminar in which he was a presenter, so we had to end the interview there. But I thank him for taking the time to answer a few questions for this blog.
