It’s complete arrogance.  The 49th has been a Democratic stronghold for decades.  John King doesn’t feel he should have to debate anybody.  He feels he deserves this seat simply because of the letter next to his name on the ballot.

Rogers is particularly upset that King found the time to mail out strongly-worded campaign fliers.

“Just like they did against Barack Obama in 2004,” the flier states, “the right-wing Republicans have recruited a black candidate from elsewhere to move into the district … all in an attempt to confuse Democratic voters. How gullible do they think we are?”

Rogers denounced the fliers as an example of negative campaigning and says they violate a pledge the candidates made earlier this year to keep the contest positive.

That is unbelievable, top notch sleazy campaigning to the core.  King evidently thinks blacks in his district are extremely gullible since he assumes they are going to march to the voting booth and automatically pull the lever for him.

He didn’t return the call. However, his political consultant, Rod Shealy Jr., did.

Shealy said he developed the flier. When asked if King approved it, he said King doesn’t read the fliers word for word.

Shealy also said he doesn’t consider the flier to be a negative ad and accused Rogers of negative campaigning, though he didn’t say how.

Rod Shealy again.  This man is such a piece of shit.  The Democrats have deplored negative campaigning from the McCain campaign against Obama and yet Shealy uses the same “Rovian” tactics in a race he is consulting for.  Shealy’s also a liar.  Does he actually think that anybody is going to believe that King didn’t know about what was written in the ad before it went out.  Furthermore, where is his example of Rogers’ alleged negative campaigning?  Another lie.
