Ketner Forms Nonprofit
Following her narrow loss in the First District Congressional race, Linda Ketner announced Tuesday she’s forming a new nonpartisan, nonprofit group to make the coastal district a better place to live.
She also wouldn’t rule out running again in 2010.
The final tally showed Ketner, a Democrat, beat incumbent Republican Rep. Henry Brown by 54-46 in Charleston County, but her win there couldn’t offset losses in Berkeley, Dorchester, Georgetown and Horry counties. Brown won re-election by a 52-48 margin — by far the slimmest margin for a Republican here in two decades.
I said when she declared that Linda Ketner was an excellent candidate and she almost pulled it off. I don’t know that she’ll be able to come as close in 2010 if she runs again. There was a lot of anti-Republican, pro-Obama fuel behind her that made the numbers this close. That won’t be a factor in two years.
Carolina Politics,
I’ve been reading you throughout the campaign and appreciate your measured and intelligent blog.
I also appreciate that you think I’m an excellent candidate! I’d be an even better Congresswoman!
Don’t know if I’ll run again because it will - as you noted - be dependent upon the national environment then.
We’ll invite the 163,742 people who voted not to continue our long history of being behind economically, environmentally, educationally, and all the other “-ally” ways we aren’t what we could and should be here in South Carolina - to make change as citizens. Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Just wanted to “drop in” and thank you for being fair and respectful in your blogs.
Best,
Linda
I think you’ll find that as the Low Country gains in population those two Congressional Districts down there will become more competitive, that is until the Republicans do redistricting again after 2010, although there may be only so much they can do.
Congratulations on running a great campaign. I was hoping to see Brown take a hike. Maybe next time. After all, Brown has two years to burn down the other half of that forest.
