Hackney Epitomizes What’s Wrong with North Carolina Government

Joe Hackney says federal stimulus would boost the North Carolina economy.

The speaker of the N.C. House of Representatives argued at a press conference in Washington, D.C., this morning that billions in spending on infrastructure projects, social welfare programs and renewable energy projects would keep the economic situation from worsening.

“We are doing the best we can to cope with our fiscal situation,” he said. “Now it’s time for Congress and our next administration to support our state efforts.”

The N&O

Hackney also wants Congress to approve funding for some state transportation projects, including the Yadkin River Bridge, extending urban highway loops, and improving mass transit.

Consider the following:

1) Joe Hackney is Speaker of the State House, which the last time I checked was a purdy darn powerful job.
2) Under his watch, N.C. has the highest taxes in the Southeast and the highest unemployment at any time in the last 15 years.
3) Lyndo Tippett, head of the N.C. Transportation Dept., is, like Hackney, a Democrat. Lyndo Tippett has wasted million of taxpayer dollars and Hackney hasn’t used his considerable influence to do anything about it.

Joe Hackney needs to either get with the program or shut up. People like him are the reason N.C. is begining to struggle under the weight of excessive government and a weakening economy.
