Charlotte Family Donates $1 Million To Help Needy

Published by Bane Windlow at 3:43 pm under Greater Charlotte, North Carolina

With winter and a bad economy bearing down, one of Charlotte’s most prominent philanthropic families is launching an unprecedented emergency fund to help thousands of the homeless, hungry and jobless through the cold months.

The Critical Need Response Fund will be unveiled at a 10 a.m. news conference today. Sandra and Leon Levine gave a $1million donation to jump-start the project, with expectations that more money will come from the community.

This is real charity.  The Levines didn’t need government to come in and legislate wealth redistribution that would take their money and pump it into a bureaucratic social program that won’t do any good.  They gave their own money through the goodness of their heart and that is where charity begins.
