Census Subcommittee Republicans to Census Bureau: Cut Ties with ACORN
Integrity of Census Should Not Be Jeopardized
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican Members of the House Subcommittee on Information Policy, Census, and National Archives sent the following letter to the U.S. Census Bureau concerning its partnership with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).
Mr. Thomas L. Mesenbourg
Acting Director
U.S. Census Bureau
4600 Silver Hill Road
Suitland, MD 20746
Dear Mr. Mesenbourg:
On May 4, 2009, Nevada’s Attorney General filed criminal charges against the political advocacy group Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) for its role in voter registration fraud during the 2008 presidential campaign. While there have been countless indictments brought against ACORN employees, this is the first charge filed against the organization itself.
In light of this serious charge, we write to request that the Census Bureau reconsider its inclusion of ACORN in the Planning Partnership Program for the 2010 Census. ACORN’s involvement may compromise our shared commitment to an apolitical and accurate census count.
In response to hearing questions submitted by Members of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the Census Bureau has previously stated that it will “not select partner organizations” that could “distract from the Census Bureau’s mission.” The Bureau also stated that “strong emphasis is placed on early identification and the urgency of swift remedial action” and that “if fraud is suspected, [an] enumerator will be relieved of duty.” The Bureau must hold partnering organizations to the same reasonable standards as its enumerators.
No one questions the desire of the Census Bureau to ensure the integrity of the census enumeration. However, if the Bureau believes that ACORN should remain a partner, we request written explanation of why its involvement is so essential that the credibility of the 2010 Census should be jeopardized.
Please submit the requested information to the Subcommittee on Information Policy, Census, and National Archives as soon as possible. Should you have any questions or need any additional information please contact Chapin Fay at (202) 225-5074.
Sincerely,
Patrick T. McHenry

I support you completely!
I support you. It is overdue to expose these freeloading, fraudulent, and illegally operating axxholes.
This effort is long over due. Having lived all over the country I have been aware of voter fraud for many years. If it continues to grow it will make campaigns irrelevant and will further reduce the once proud citizens of this country to serfdom. Acorn, like the ACLU, does not deserve to be fed by the money of those it preys upon.

I have lived in the south most of my life. When it is time to vote a bus shows up in certain areas people are paid to get into the bus and be taken to vote. This is no joke. I’m old and this is not new. Their is a party going on, we are paying the tab, but we are not invited. No more of our scarce tax dollars going to those who have their own agenda and it has nothing to do with following our Constitution. Wake up and see American does all that you see seem to be fair? It’s in your face and you still sit silent. Snail Mail, E-Mail and Fax your concerns, to the people who are suppost to be looking out for YOUR best interest. Ask your self does anyone seem to be interested in bailing you out? Tax Dollars are your dollars, if you continue to say nothing that is exactly what you have been getting and will continue to get NOTHING. Your children and their children are counting on YOU!
I think ACORN should be prohibited from receiving ANY taxpayer money. They have a shady past. Smoke indicates fire somewhere. Why should this group receive Federal funds (OUR money) when they have such a reputation AND when they receive so much assistance from banks and other groups. The government should protect us by not doling out our money to such groups. This money could be better spent in many other ways.
We are running out of time, we need to stop talking and start some actions… I live in Nevada and know what groups like ACORN are capable of… How do we get moving and stop the Census fiasco???
Judy, it’s probably up to the Republicans in Congress to stop this for the most part. Obviously, you can also do the usual in calling your representative and Senators. If you’re in Nevada you can call Senator Ensign’s office. Reid’s office probably won’t care, but you can do that too and call whoever your House Representative is.
Since the MSM isn’t going to care, talk radio and FOX News are going to have to make an issue out of this and get people to complain to their elected reps to keep ACORN out of the picture. If enough hay is made over it, it can be stopped like the amnesty was a few years ago, but I am skeptical that enough people are going to hear about this and do something.
This is disgraceful. ACORN should not be given tacxpayer and should not be allowed to do the census. Obama must think we are idiots. If have to scream loud and clear to get this stopped.
Thank you ReP Henry. You have America behind you, at least Repbs, Libs and some of those libs who are now sorry who they voted for. that makes over half the population of the US.
Keep fighting.
I am thankful that Americans are finally speaking out. We can not allow organizations like ACORN to continue. They will destroy America.
Congressman Henry, I applaud your efforts to remove ACORN from any role in the 2010 Census.
Fox News’ Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly have been all over ACORN for the last several weeks and have uncovered information which the entire country should know.
Obviously, the mainstream media is not going to publicize ANY criticism of Obama’s pet project. It is going to be up to conscientious men and women in Congress, from both sides of the aisle, to demand an investigation.
The people, Beck and O’Reilly can dig up all the information, and call for congressional investigations, all they want. But it’s going to take a strong and vocal stand by you and like-minded patriotic members of congress to have any chance of success.
I’m from Central Virgina and have already contacted Mark Warner, Jim Webb and Tom Perriello to let them know my feelings. Everyone who wants to put an end to Obama’s end-run around the Constitution should make sure to holler loud and long to their representatives.
We need to have less waste in spending – especially funding groups such as ACORN. We need to overhaul the whole government spending system to cut waste – such as funding groups like ACORN/United Nations/ and other ANTI-American groups. We also need to make sure that people who vote are actually ALIVE, Registered, and U.S. Citizens. It would appear that the last Presidential election was BOUGHT! This has to STOP!
