South Carolina Too Dangerous for Michelle
Let’s get this straight: The White House has allowed first lady Michelle Obama to tool around Moscow, the Czech Republic and even Ghana in the past year, but officials are a little worried about her coming to South Carolina.
They consider the atmosphere here too dangerous.
Just when it seemed the summer of shame was over, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn dropped this bombshell on The Post and Courier’s Yvonne Wenger on Friday. Clyburn says the White House is wary of bringing the first lady to the state because of the attitude of some of its residents.
Even if they are overreacting, or if Clyburn is overstating the case, it’s embarrassing.
If security professionals, who apparently have reservations, actually believe it is too dangerous for the first family to visit a U.S. state, then we have dropped below the status of a Third World country.
It makes us look like buffoons, racists and backwater morons.
A loudmouthed minority of Neanderthals and sore losers have so poisoned the national discourse with their racist rantings, crude jokes and veiled threats that they have sullied South Carolina’s reputation more than any governor, congressman or senator could ever imagine.
So, thanks for that.
The above is an excerpt of a column penned by Brian Hicks of the Post and Courier yesterday. His points are well taken, but I think he has come to the wrong conclusion. Our state has certainly had its share of embarrassing moments this year, but I don’t think the position of the White House on the First Lady visiting is anything more than elitist snobbery.
Anti-war protesters paraded around San Francisco holding up effigies of George Bush and posters comparing him to Adolf Hitler, but that never stopped Bush or his wife from visiting California and that state is a bastion of Marxist moonbats. The White House never declared that California was an unsafe place for the President or his family to visit. No, this position of the Obama White House is typical northern disdain for the southern U.S. Divisions have existed between the north and south ever since the Civil War. Redneck, trailer trash, and hill billies are words you’ll hear up north to describe southerners pretty much on a regular basis and the farther northeast you go the worse it gets.
South Carolina with the other southern states share an unpleasant past with civil rights and even though those issues are long behind us and most of the region has moved on, our sons will continue to pay the price of their fathers’ mistakes. A stigma is going to haunt this part of the country for years to come out of ignorance and that’s just the way it is. No use getting upset about it. I’ve lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Hampshire before living in the south. There is no more racism and bigotry down here than there is up there. It’s pretty much equal everywhere you go, but it is the south that has been stamped with the stereotype of racial and cultural intolerance because of its active past in stomping out diversity and hampering the rights of those that were different. The northern states discriminated just as much, but up there it wasn’t out in the open. It was hidden just like it still is today. What else would explain the rioting that took place in Chicago and Detroit and other northern cities during the Civil Rights movement?
I have heard few racially tinged remarks living here in the south, but there were plenty more of that back in Pennsylvania. It’s the acts of the past and the continued perception of this region that has poisoned the well, not Joe Wilson calling the President a liar. If the same incidents Hicks notes in his column happened in Massachusetts do you think the White House would have the same concerns? Not likely. This action by the Obama administration is not going to win anyone over if they are trying to make inroads here. The bottom line is South Carolina is politically hostile to Obama because of his politics, nothing more, nothing less. It is those politics that will make it even less likely for him to win this state in 2012 than it was in 2008.
Is Clyburn just talking or does he actually have knowledge of the First Lady’s staff indicating it is ‘too dangerous’ to visit SC? Perhaps this is much ado about nothing. Again.
It may be a snub to SC due to the likes of Wilson and those emotionally unhinge-able in the state.
Perhaps it was the helmet laws.
Visit SC?
Really? Why bother?
I have to agree with “dale” here. I could imagine what it would be like if the First Lady visited SC. Protesting citizens and hollering going on…..not for me and not for the First Lady. SC’s need to start acting like the reasonable adult citizens they were before Pres. Obama came on the scene. Is that really too much to ask?
People were not showing up at Bush events with guns or yelling kill him. Progressives never attacked Laura Bush either. People were protesting against Bush because he lied us into a war that has killed thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi’s. To compare the two diminishes your opinion and shows a lack of reason and intellect.
Isn’t it just hilarious that after the last eight years of leftist political discourse being firmly planted beneath the gutter, suddenly they all want to portray that whole time as some kind of golden age of civilized dissent, while acting like any conservative who gives an opinion over the air or on the interwebs is fomenting civil war?
To steal what is now a dead horse of an erroneous cliche, and to apply it to a situation in which it is 100% accurate: Where the hell were all of you people in the last eight years?
Where were you when literally every single protest had ‘Bush is Hitler’-type signs?
Where were you when people were carrying banners that said things like ‘We support our troops when they shoot their officers’, to the apparent approval of their fellow protesters?
Where were you when leftist zombies were physically blocking the entrances to military recruiting offices in Berkley?
Where were you when leftists were rushing the stages at political events, or shouting to drown out free speech?
Where were you when leftists were rioting outside of WTO summits?
Where were you when that leftist toad hurled a brick through a window at Tom Tancredo?
Where were you when leftist hordes from ACORN stormed board meetings in order to terrorize executives?
Where were you when leftists were stalking executives’ children at their schools?
Let me guess - you were cheering all of that stuff on.
“People were protesting against Bush because he lied us into a war that has killed thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi’s.”
Hey genius- if you or anyone else could actually prove for a fact that Bush “lied” about something of that magnitude, don’t you think Obama, who can’t go five minutes without using Bush’s alleged faults for his own political cover, along with the overwhelmingly Democratic Congress, would do something about it beyond political hay to keep you dummies on the plantation?
I mean, if I legitimately believed that he actively deceived people (and apparently lots and lots and lots of people in intel agencies worldwide, right?) and I legitimately believed that it led to that kind of destruction, I think I’d do something about it. But apparently the Democratic Party that is running this country right now, wouldn’t, because they aren’t.
And that’s kind of odd, isn’t it?
Gee, I wonder if that means they were completely full of crap when they were promoting all of those ‘Bush lied’ conspiracy theories in order to get elected? Nah, I’ll bet they’re just turning a blind eye to the trooth about hundreds of thousands of deaths and war profiteering in order to be nice! Yeah, that’s the ticket.
You prove my point, your comparisons are ridiculous, your examples are total hype, and your conclusions are nonsense. Turn off the talk radio and get some real information. Maybe then you could come up with a reasonable argument. The Acorn reference really gave you away.
Lay off cmitchz already!
He’s running from many usernames, blogs and fake backgrounds already. Don’t give him a real reason to complain about his privileged recent UNC grad life, that of a beat up idiot mama’s boy that couldn’t even be Conservative on a Right Wing blog without someone that could spell supposedly “attacking” him with stupid facts and making him run away.
That might make him end it all. Or finally vote in his economic interest.
At this point I’m convinced that most liberal blog trolls, especially Truthers like Gosh aka Gigglebox, are some kind of script or bot. Real people aren’t that stupid.
Tell me, Gosh, what does the keyword phrase ‘Joe Scarborough’ cause you to post? What’s your theory about him killing that girl?
