Midlands CEO to Make Independent Bid for Governor

Morgan Bruce Reeves, a former college football star and construction company CEO, is running for governor as an independent.

Reeves criticized both Republicans and Democrats for not finding common ground to solve the state’s urgent issues, and said one of his objectives would be to extend term limits to lawmakers.

“We need someone to bring this state together,” Reeves said.

The State

A strong third party bid for the governor’s seat would be refreshing.  The Republicans have done a lackluster job in managing this state as it has been under their control for some time now.  The Democrats don’t have any better or innovative ideas of their own either.

Independent and third party candidacies are tough and rarely successful, but they do come through on occasion.  There could be enough disgruntled folks here in South Carolina to abandon the two major parties and support the bid of an outsider.  A lot of that will depend on who the party nominees are and how strong of a candidate Reeves can be.
