A press release from the McHenry for Congress campaign has accused Democratic Congressional candidate Daniel Johnson of misleading the public regarding an endorsement from the Veterans and Military Families for Progress. In the statement from Johnson’s campaign regarding the endorsement, it is stated that on Friday August 22nd the campaign will announce the endorsement of a national non-partisan organization of veterans and military families. The problem brought to the forefront by the McHenry campaign is that the Veterans and Military Families for Progress aren’t very non-partisan. They point out that all but two of the candidates endorsed by the group in the 2006 elections were Democrats. This is true.
Veterans and Military Families for Progress claim to be a non-partisan group, but I think that is a false claim for them to make. Their endorsements clearly speak otherwise and the fact they refer to themselves as a progressive group is a keyword for left wing ideas and policies. If you read their Web site they are most definitely on the left side of the aisle. So is it misleading for the Johnson campaign to claim this endorsement as non-partisan? Technically they can say no as they are going by the claim the group itself makes, but anyone who approaches this with common sense can see through the transparent glass.

FOX NEWS
Fox news has reported that a majority of military absentee ballots are not counted and a super majority of service members are not being made aware of their right to a absentee ballot.
“It should be a national scandal that, here, our men and women in uniform who are protecting our freedom who are exposing themselves to harm are being denied the most basic civil right, and that is the right to vote,” Cornyn said.
A reason that the Democrats are not behind this measure is because they know a majority of service members tend to vote Republican. They should be ashamed of themselves and not assume how our military service members vote. Just like their failure on drilling for oil, the Democrats fail on this basic civil right for our service members.

A group of veterans declared their support for John McCain today.
At a half-hour press conference in front of the state legislature, nearly 40 volunteers and members of Veterans for McCain withstood 97-degree heat as they argued the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has the right plan for Iraq.
I am a United States Army veteran who supports John McCain. I really have serious misgivings about Barack Obama’s experience and judgment. So much so that as a North Carolina state house candidate, I find it very important to bring my opinion here. My district is majority-minority and gerrymandered to guarrantee the election of a democrat.
My opponent has openly endorsed Barack Obama twice and has both declarations recorded in the News&Observer. Do you think they would record my support and endorsement of John McCain? A big fat NO.

McCrory Addresses North Carolina VFW Annual Meeting
Charlotte, N.C. – Today Pat McCrory addressed the North Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) annual meeting in Greensboro. His opponent, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue, sent a representative but chose not to attend.
“I am committed to taking care of the brave men and women who served our nation honorably and protected the freedoms we hold so dear,” said McCrory. “That is why I cleared my schedule to speak to our state’s veterans and listen to what is on their minds. As Governor, I will always be accessible to our veterans and I will always advocate for their best interests.”
McCrory discussed a number of issues including his support for modernizing the Montgomery GI Bill, increasing space in the state veterans’ cemetery and improving mental health services for returning veterans.
