I want to thank everyone I met at the Knightdale Pool early voting site for doing just that, voting early. I will also be there tomorrow to visit with the voters.
While most people are focused on the national elections, I want to emphasize the importance of the Governor, State House, and State Senate races. The people elected to these offices will set state spending, taxing, and many other policies in this state. As I have said before, our state has been badly mismanaged by Tony Rand, Marc Basnight, Joe Hackney, and Dan Blue. And I cannot forget to mention the absentee Governor Mike Easley.
I stand here asking that everyone set party aside when deciding if I am acceptable to you and the agent of change that we so badly need in the North Carolina Legislature. I will bring my blue collar work ethic to the General Assembly and will not accept the political nonsense I WILL run into. I am willing to make the hard decisions to get our state back on track fiscally while protecting our special needs children and adults.
While my opponent is too busy campaigning for one of the Presidential candidates to ask for your vote, I am out there wanting to represent ALL of district 33 and North Carolina voters.
Oct 24 2008
I gave what I consider my “Dose of Reality” speech to the Professional Engineers and other candidates present last night at their meet the candidates forum. And you can correspond this with the October 2008 Decision Maker poll that you can link to. A vast majority of North Carolinian voters polled believe we are headed in the wrong direction and blame the state legislature.
The last 8 years have brought us to where we are. The criminal mismanagement of our state budget will leave us with a $2 BILLION shortfall next year by CONSERVATIVE estimates. The idea is not to raise taxes in good economic times but to accumulate rainy day funds for times like these. And this is one of those rainy day periods that proves that uncontrolled spending by the legislature is as I have said above, CRIMINAL.
As we creep towards “Socialism” nationally, we must resist the urge to do so locally. Electing “Economically Conservative” candidates is a necessity if we are to balance the State Budget and ensure fairness to all of us. Electing the same tax and spend politicians will only continue our slide into indebtedness and ultimately a socialist state that benefits no one.
Tell all of your friends and colleagues that they can make a HUGE difference in this year’s election and send a message that CHANGE is desperately needed in our North Carolina General Assembly.

District 33
Former House Speaker Dan Blue is one of the state’s most distinguished African-American leaders whose efforts lately have been concentrated on leading the Barack Obama campaign in North Carolina. Six years ago, Blue made his own bid for a Washington address when he ran unsuccessfully, but with our endorsement, in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. A high post in the new Obama administration can certainly be his if he wants it, but we selfishly hope he’ll remain in Raleigh, where he practices law and serves as a role model for up-and-coming politicians.Regardless of all that, Blue richly merits re-election in his race with Republican challenger Paul F. Terrell III, an Army vet who touts his National Rifle Association and Right to Life memberships as credentials for office along with a stream of conservative talking points straight from the John Locke Foundation. Terrell’s employed at CREE as a maintenance technician. In this heavily African-American district in East Raleigh, against the highly respected Blue, Terrell has no chance.
I want to know why they point out that Blue is African-American and that the 33rd is a heavily African-American district. I resent the fact that they chose to point out my opponents race but not mine. I am running to represent ALL of district 33 and not one specific Presidential candidate. Their writer needs to know that it is Terrell is employed at.. not Terrell’s employed at…. You would think that a extreme left wing rag like the INDY would have better writers and editors.

At the AKA Sorority function last night Kay Hagan attacked Dole with the same talking points from her commercial. She talked about Dole’s effectiveness rating and voting with Bush 90% of the time. Hagan forgot to mention that she voted with Marc Basnight and Tony Rand 100% of the time and also voted for that $9 million jet Easley had to cancel. Hagan was very negative and condescending towards Dole while talking to a small probably receptive audience.
My opponent Dan Blue was too busy talking about Voting for Obama to be worried about his own race. And I got Vernon Malone angry at me because I said that the leadership in Raleigh was responsible for our failures on Mental healthcare, Roads, Schools, and many other failures. I did mention to a voter that it took a Democratic consultant to start the downfall of Jim Black, not the General Assembly leadership. Also Malone did not ask for the expulsion of Representative Wright when overwhelming evidence caused the full House to eject him. Malone only wanted a slap on the wrist of Wright. Maybe corrupt is a label that DOES fit the leadership of the Democratic Party in Raleigh.

RALEIGH - More students in North Carolina failed reading tests in the spring than in previous years as a result of new tests and new standards, the state Board of Education said today. But statewide, passing rates dropped by double digit percentages for students in third through eighth grades.
The results won’t affect individual students or teacher bonuses.
I will be responsive to all of district 33 and North Carolina’s citizens.

Local and state candidates will gather next Tuesday.
The Triangle Community Coalition, a pro-development business group, will holds its seventh annual pig picking at the always incongruous Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh.

I would enjoy debating Dan Blue and his views on many issues and his association and endorsement of Barack Obama. That will never happen. Dan Blue is afraid of this veteran, hard working, and blue collar district 33 citizen.
On Monday, Obama demanded that the Justice Department stop TV stations from airing a documented, accurate independent ad spotlighting Obama’s longtime working relationship with unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers. Obama summoned his followers to bombard stations, many of them owned by conservative-leaning Sinclair Communications, with 93,000 e-mails to squelch the commercial.
On Tuesday, the Obama campaign sent another letter to the Justice Department demanding investigation and prosecution of American Issues Project, the group that produced the Ayers ad, as well as Dallas billionaire Harold Simmons, who funded it.

Here is a letter written to the editor of the Wilson Times. The continuing culture of corruption and graft. Just remember that Representative Blue-D and Senator Nesbitt-D are Electricities water carriers. If those two politicians wanted to they could clean up Electricities and many other issues in Raleigh.
The recent City Council meetings should signal to all that something is very wrong in Wilson when it comes to our electric rates. It is time for City Council to hold ElectriCities accountable for spending and decisions. It is time for all 32 cities to hold them accountable. I hope Wilson will be the leader. ElectriCities needs to make cuts now.
In October 2003, Mr. Tilton, the CEO, made $328,328 and now he makes $458,000 and the board says he is underpaid. What did he do over five years to yield a $130,000 increase? Clay Norris makes $244,000 now and in 2003 he made $165,000, what did he do to earn an $80,000 increase? Estherine Davis earned $75,000 in 2003 and now makes $135,000, what did she do to earn a $60,000 increase? Is it just me or are these salaries and salary increases excessive?
I officially hang this albatross around the neck of Dan Blue. He is a Democrat with more than two decades in the General Assembly of North Carolina. He is also a former ElectriCities lobbyist and current recipient of a $1,000 PAC donation.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A new federal report is identifying some serious problems with North Carolina’s probation system. The NIC makes 35 recommendations including a “back to basics†approach. Eighteen of the recommendations are meant to improve operational effectiveness, and 17 address management and personnel issues.Representative Dan Blue, a Wake County Democrat, said he thinks the proposition to make juvenile records accessible would have to be fine-tuned.“I think most people would be very reluctant to open wide the juvenile records,†Blue said.
But he believes the legislature would do what it can to make the probation system run more smoothly.
“It’s our responsibility to make sure the citizens in this state are safe,†Blue said.
The final draft report will be released in a few weeks.

No doubt it was not ElectriCities’ intention to show how ridiculously insensitive, self-serving and out of touch elected officials can be. But by staging its annual meeting at the Marriott Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, S.C., last weekend, just weeks after raising its members’ electricity rates by 14 percent, the group managed to do just that.
ElectriCities is a government agency per the legislation of NC Representative Blue and NC Senator Nesbitt. Apparently getting power directly from Progress Energy or Duke Energy is not good enough. These governments and lobbyists have decided this is the best way for them to make huge profits and outlandish salaries. They raise rates way above the rate of inflation and the actual costs of the energy to pay for parties like this one and advertising. Why does ElectriCities need to advertise?
ElectriCities has also pointed out that half the cost of the three-day conference — $175,000 — was paid for by corporate sponsors. Critics allege, however, that many of these sponsors may also be the same businesses that perform paid services for ElectriCities, so it’s in their interest to foot half the cost of what amounts to an expensive weekend getaway for public officials.
Taxpayers of the cities sending officials fund the other half of ElectriCities’ annual junket, paying approximately $500 per official in room costs and other expenses. Unlike the corporate sponsors, we’re not sure how taxpayers’ backs are being scratched by last weekend’s ElectriCities beach bash. Of course, “clawed” actually may be a more apt description, since most will be paying higher electricity costs thanks to the rate hike ElectriCities approved in June.
It is time to end the culture of corruption in North Carolina and ElectriCities is a big part of it.

In the debate over how much new oil drilling to allow, Sen. Barack Obama has made a simple but potent-sounding argument against moving too fast. Before opening up new areas to drilling, Obama says, the oil companies should be required to drill the acreage they already have.
But Obama’s statement, coming from House Democrats, suggests that ‘non-producing’ acreage where drilling is permitted is land that oil companies are ignoring. That is simply not true. Years of exploration and federal permitting must be completed before leased land yields oil or gas. As a result, we find Obama’s claim to be False.
Let the lies from the Democratic Party and Barack Obama begin. And of course the mainstream media will not report it. Spread the word about what an empty suit Obama is and anyone who supports and endorses him. I do believe that Dan Blue has publically endorsed Obama.

High gas prices have made for less congested roadways across the country, and right here in North Carolina. With every fill up drivers pay 18.4 cents a gallon in federal tax and add another 29.9 cents a gallon in state taxes. But recent studies show Americans drove 12.2 billion miles less this June compared to June 2007.
We are not going to get any breaks from the current leadership in the North Carolina General Assembly. And it will only get worse if we re-elect the Democrats back into the majority. No, not all of the Democrats are tax and spenders. They do however vote right along with the 5 or 6 Democrats who run this state.
The Democrats borrowed over $800 million this year WITHOUT voter approval and will continue to do as long they remain in power. No attempt was made to make cuts to the state budget that would allow tax relief for us. They support out of control Annexation programs and continue their corrupt behavior on a daily basis. Why did the State Ethics Commission violate procedures and maybe our law in allowing a Perdue aid alone with filed paperwork? And why did the employee who noted it get fired after the note was deleted?
Is this what you want in state government or do you want CHANGE in North Carolina?
Electing Pat McCrory and a Republican majority will allow us to bring leadership and economic common sense back to North Carolina.

Cree, the company whose LEDs lit up dazzling light shows during the opening ceremony at the Beijing Olympics, reported stronger-than-expected sales today.
In a prepared statement, CEO Chuck Swoboda declared the quarter “a strong finish to a very successful year. Revenue exceeded our previously announced guidance due to strong LED sales. … We have executed our strategy to transform Cree into a broad-based LED company with chips, components and systems that are leading the LED lighting revolution.â€
I am a proud employee of this corporation that is using private industry ingenuity to make a profit and create newer technologies. This contributes to a “greener†planet. This is a prime example of how to balance the needs of our economy with a environmentally clean country and world. Keep the government interference to a minimum and let capitalism save state, country and if needed the world.

Today I called Brad Miller’s-D Raleigh congressional office and informed one of his office interns that I was demanding that he ask for a Up or Down vote. This vote would entail the lifting of the current congressional ban on offshore/deep sea drilling for oil.
His web site says he wants to help Americans struggling with high gas prices. Yet he ignores the one measure that could instantly drop the price on a barrel of oil, and that is lifting the congressional ban. His logic is flawed on the delay in getting the oil out of the ground. If Bill Clinton had not vetoed the previous attempt by the Republican Congress, we would have starting getting oil more than three years ago. So President Clinton is partly responsible for our current dilemma. And the Brad Miller is helping exacerbate the problem.
I am totally behind the effort to develop and increase of efficiency for solar, wind, hydroelectric, clean coal, and nuclear power. But without increasing our domestic production of natural gas and oil, we place ourselves at the mercy of middle eastern and other interests.
If the will of the people determine that I will be the representative of State House 33, I will not discount or ignore any possibility to help the people of North Carolina. Dan Blue supports Barack Obama who is against offshore drilling, while a majority of North Carolinians support it. Where does Dan Blue’s loyalty lye? I know where my loyalties lye, with the people of North Carolina.

What we witnessed was a system out of control, especially in our Senate. A handful of Senators made decisions behind closed doors and shoved them through to approval with only token opposition from other Democrats, who supposedly hold majority control. One longtime observer remarked that this year’s Basnight-Rand run Senate was far worse than the infamous “gang of eight†led by Liston Ramsey and Billy Watkins back in the 1970’s and ‘80’s.
It is time that we take back our state from the back room politicians of Basnight, Blue and Rand. The members of the Democratic caucus have had more than ample opportunity in the last two years to speak up about what is the right thing to do.
Our children are dropping out of school at a alarming rate, over one third. The mental healthcare fiasco is directly the responsibility of the Democrats in charge. And our roads are falling apart even after only a few months after bring built. Do we need to have a disaster like what happened to the interstate bridge in Minnesota?
I agree with Tom Campbell, we cannot wait till next year, we need to make changes to who goes back to the NC state legislature next year.

A group of veterans declared their support for John McCain today.
At a half-hour press conference in front of the state legislature, nearly 40 volunteers and members of Veterans for McCain withstood 97-degree heat as they argued the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has the right plan for Iraq.
I am a United States Army veteran who supports John McCain. I really have serious misgivings about Barack Obama’s experience and judgment. So much so that as a North Carolina state house candidate, I find it very important to bring my opinion here. My district is majority-minority and gerrymandered to guarrantee the election of a democrat.
My opponent has openly endorsed Barack Obama twice and has both declarations recorded in the News&Observer. Do you think they would record my support and endorsement of John McCain? A big fat NO.
